It is with great sadness that we learnt of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday 8th September.

As a mark of respect our social media channels will fall silent for the ten days of national mourning.

The Museum will remain open for visitors and our Heritage Open Day event on September 15th will continue as planned, unless national guidance changes. Any updates will be relayed here.

The lights illuminating ‘The Queen’ – an art installation at the Museum dedicated to her Majesty – will remain off during the ten days of mourning, though visitors will still be able to view the piece.

Our collection of Royal commemorative bricks will remain on display throughout the period of mourning in a quiet corner of the Museum for visitors wishing to pay their respects.

May she rest in peace and rise in glory.
