Part time Volunteer Co-ordinator Post

We are seeking a Part Time Volunteer Coordinator, as part of our project ‘Connecting Communities’ project, funded by The National Lottery, to increase volunteer diversity and inclusion in our growing local community. The role will also include the management of our large, existing and enthusiastic volunteer team

Working closely with the Museum Director, Collections Manager, Education and Engagement leads, you will play a key role in delivering a focussed programme of sustainable volunteer involvement as well as developing and implementing effective programmes of work for volunteers over a wide range of teams as well as being responsible for induction and training, strong foundations for which are already in place.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and people-focused coordinator to develop their skills in volunteer management as well as community engagement for the duration of the year-long project and beyond.

 

Accountability

The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible to the Museum Director

 

Key Responsibilities

 

· Manage The Brickworks Museum team of volunteers both new and existing to ensure a consistent approach to everyone volunteering at the museum.

· Create effective systems for sustainable and diverse volunteer recruitment and succession planning.

· Work with Meon Health Wellbeing Team to recruit new volunteers via the social prescribing route. An important part of this will be to ensure that the new volunteers are happy with their roles within the museum, feel supported and working within their capabilities.

· Provide administrative support covering induction, training and monitoring for the volunteer team. Ensure that all volunteer management policies and procedures meet best practice.

· Increasing the number of volunteer roles on offer and creating volunteer roles that can be done remotely.

· Following volunteer recruitment, and a skills review, to deliver in-house training as required.

 

The post holder may be expected to undertake other duties that are commensurate with the grade, range and nature of the post and level of responsibility.

 

Person Specification

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

· Comparable experience in a similar previous role, or good transferrable skills Experience of managing a database, good IT skills

· Experience of working with volunteers and leading them in the delivery of activities and events.

· Ability to manage own workload

· Experience of working within an arts or heritage organisation

 

 

Skills and Knowledge

· Excellent written and communication skills

· Adaptable and flexible to meet the demands of a small team

· Understanding of volunteer management

· Knowledge of current Health and Safety guidance for working with vulnerable adults and young people and safety in the workplace

· Ability to work independently and use own initiative, when necessary.

· Ability to work systematically, quickly, efficiently and accurately.

· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and partner organisations, and the general public

 

Conditions of Service Salary:

 

£25,600 pro rata (15 hours per week for 48 weeks = £11,000).

Location: Based at The Brickworks Museum, Swanwick, Southampton.

Hours of work: Average of 15 hours per week. We are on site Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with key volunteering days being Tuesday and Thursday. Museum staff currently work 7-hour days. There is flexibility as to how the role is covered over two or three days.

Contract: The contract is offered fixed term for 48 weeks with a view to extending at the end of the period and moving into a more permanent role.

Leave: 13 days including statutory Bank Holidays. The museum is closed in the period between Christmas and New Year with extra days leave to accommodate this.

Notice period: This post is subject to a notice period of one calendar month.
