This year has been very challenging for the museum and there is no doubt that all of the heritage sector faces an uncertain future. We are looking at a variety of ways to increase opening times, visitor numbers and our income, however, the uncertain nature of the pandemic does mean that there may have to be last minute changes.

Please keep an eye on our website for updates.

Visiting the Museum

As we have a very large amount of space and can absorb a large number of visitors at a time you do not have to book to visit the museum if you visit during normal opening times. Contactless payment is available with all card machines sanitised between use where possible. While contactless is the preferred method of payment, cash will still be accepted. All till systems will be wiped down between sales.

For Event days, advanced booking will be required via our on-line booking system.  Please see our Events page for details of how to book for an event.

Safety

All visitors will be asked to respect social distancing on arriving at the museum and will see clear markers in place throughout the museum to serve as visual reminders.

We have had to make a few changes to what is on offer, including the temporary removal of hands-on activities. We have plenty of hand sanitiser stations and undertake regular cleaning of those areas most at risk. PPE is worn by staff and volunteers in the museum and we will require all visitors to follow government guidelines and wear masks inside.

We have been given the Visit England ‘Good to Go’ seal of approval and continue to monitor the situation as information is released by the Government and Public Health England. Our aim is to ensure you enjoy your visit whilst ensuring everyone’s safety.

NHS Test and Trace

In line with Government guidance, we are supporting the NHS Test and Trace.  There is a QR code on display when entering the museum which can be used with the NHS Test & Trace app.  If you don’t have the app we kindly request visitors supply us with their name and contact telephone number when visiting the Museum. These details will be safely stored by the Museum in accordance with GDPR and will be destroyed after 21 days of your visit. For more information on NHS Test and Trace please visit https://www.gov.uk/guidance/nhs-test-and-trace-how-it-works.
