The Volunteers, Staff and Trust of the Museum would like to thank Hermes Lodge no.5532 for the generous donation of £250 towards the purchase of an accessible carriage for our miniature railway.

Phil Boswell, Paul Dungey and Site Manager Richard Newman at the cheque presentation

Worshipful Master Paul Dungey presented the cheque to Phil Boswell of the Museum’s Railway Team on Wednesday 27th July outside our miniature train railway station. The funding comes from the Masonic Charitable Foundation’s Relief Chest and is the first step in our fundraising towards the purchase of a carriage that is accessible to wheelchair users.

Whilst most of our site is fully accessible, our miniature railway requires visitors to be able to climb onto carriages to enjoy a ride. Purchasing an accessible carriage will allow more people to enjoy the railway, and will allow our guests with mobility issues to enjoy it more independently.

The excellent generosity of the Hermes Lodge has kickstarted our fundraising for this special item but we have a way to go yet – can you help? Do you know of a fund that could help us? Or are you looking for a special charity to make a donation to this year? Get in touch.
